Locanda dell’isola Comacina is one of the most wonderful, exquisite and extravagant places at the lake.

 

An evening at the restaurant on Isola Comacina always starts with a tomato with lemon and oregano. It ends with a fire ritual where Benvenuto makes a coffee with caramelized sugar in brandy.

The evening started with a perfect appetizer, a half tomato with lemon and oregano. It tastes so good and makes an explosion of tastes in your mouth.

 

Then it’s the vegetable's time to be served. It is probably the best vegetables in the world. You get vegetables of the season. My favorite vegetable is the baked onion. It is fantastic to get so many vegetables that taste so good.

 

After the tomato and the vegetables, you get some ham. Very fantastic dish. Simple but good. I paramour (love) it.

 

After this, the trout is served. The trout is made on the grill, where it is grilled just like it is on every side. This is also a fantastic dish.

 

The last main dish is the grilled chicken. It is perfectly grilled with salt and a crisp crust. It is served with a salad with olive oil.

 

Before desert parmesan cheese is served. But it’s not just served as if you’ll get a little piece of it. It’s sliced specially for you as a customer. The waiter looks at you and then the person decides rather you’re going to get a small piece or a big piece of parmesan cheese. On top of it, it’s a 25 kilo half round parmesan cheese that they’re cutting from.

 

And then the perfect dessert containing homemade ice cream and seasonal fruit.

 

The last thing that is served is the special coffee made by the fire ritual.

 

The evening contains wine ad libitum and water ad libitum. It costs seventy-seven (77) euro (in 2018) plus boat which is nine (9) euro (in 2018). It is a fantastic evening every time.

 

As you can see on the price, it isn’t a place you go every evening but is a place that tells a very special story. It contains a very nice atmosphere.

 

The sanitation conditions are not the best. It is okay, but at a restaurant like this, you would expect a more exclusive experience with the sanitation.

 

The general service is very good and I would say that the waiters do a perfect job. They are very attentive and they are always there with a new bottle of wine or a new bottle of water when you need it.

 

As already written the food is very good. The quality of the food is great and the huge amount of dishes on the same menu are good. They only serve one menu with 8 dishes and you need to be aware of that. Especially if you are bringing kids to the restaurant because they can’t just make a pasta or a beef or some fries or something like that. I like it that way, but families with young kids have to be aware of it.

 

You can’t park on the island. You need to take a boat from Sala Comacina. There are limited parking spaces by the boat, so I would suggest you take a NCC taxi instead. Highly professional people working at NCC and they are kind to. My experiences with them are good. I have only had one unfortunate experience out of the around 10 times I have used them. They didn’t come to the location we have arranged and therefore my parents, our friends and I needed to walk instead.

 

The boat you need to take is snug (cozy) but nearly outdated. I think it is a nice little tour crossing the lake but it is also expensive.

 

I would give the restaurant three to four (3-4) stars out of five (5).

 

I can particularly recommend you to pay this fantastic restaurant a visit.
